New Lidl Food Market opens in Dauphin County [Video]

The popular German discount grocery store will open its first location in Dauphin County.

HARRISBURG, Pa. — Lidl, a popular German discount grocery store, opened a new location in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County on Wednesday.

This is the first location in the Harrisburg area.

The first 100 people in line for the grand opening received gift cards ranging from $5 to $100.

Lidl staff say that they expect to employ around 20 people from the Harrisburg area and make an economic impact in the community.

They also say they will donate $1 to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank for every person that signs up for the myLidl app and marks Harrisburg as their home location.

During the grand opening, Lidl parked a food truck offering free coffee, drinks and food for patrons waiting in line or leaving the store.
