Franklin Graham is grateful for all God did through Samaritan’s Purse in 2022. He thanks the ministry’s partners for their prayers and support that allowed Samaritan’s Purse to meet the physical needs of hurting people in the U.S. and around the world, and share with them the hope found only in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. The team behind Finca Pastoreo knows it takes a diverse set of skills to run a successful food business. That is why in 2018 they combined their decades of agricultural, accounting, and business management skills to produce what they consider the most nutritious grassfed lamb, chicken, and eggs on the island. Finca Pastoreo is shaped by a desire to be a profitable, fully sustainable operation and shares its knowledge with members of the community eager to learn how to contribute to the island’s food security and autonomy. To expand operations, Finca Pastoreo used its WCK grant to build a mobile chicken coop to house 1,000 additional laying chickens. The impact of the grant extends beyond the hundreds of thousands of additional eggs the new chickens produce each year. The investment will result in an expansion of the farm’s workforce and will be used to educate the community about sustainable farming. __ Launched after Hurricane María in 2017, and in operation through 2022, WCK’s Food Producer Network (FPN) helped smallholder farmers, fishers, and small food-related businesses revitalize their operations and begin to regrow their long-term capacity for food production, distribution, and sales. Through its three pillars—grants and loans, capacity building and networking, and volunteering and agritourism—FPN contributed to system-wide improvements in food and nutrition security and sustainability by growing the capacity of local communities to produce their own food. In doing so, we increased their resilience against future disasters. __ Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a nonprofit organization that is first to the frontlines providing fresh meals in response to crises. Applying our model of quick action, leveraging local resources, and adapting in real time, WCK has served hundreds of millions nourishing meals around the world. __ Follow WCK: Website: https://wck.org/ Instagram: https://instagram.com/wckitchen Twitter: https://twitter.com/WCKitchen Facebook: https://facebook.com/worldcentralkitchen
Like so many other farmers, Sebastian of Rancho Orgánico Feliz is no stranger to the devastation a hurricane can cause. His farm in western Puerto Rico suffered tremendous losses from Hurricane María and WCK helped finance the farm's recovery efforts back then as one of our first grantees when we initially launched FPN. After Hurricane Fiona, WCK coordinated a group of volunteers to help Sebastian clean plots and save organic crops which are being made available to vulnerable communities through Mimosa Brunch Farm to Table—a WCK partner restaurant. Mimosa is owned and operated by Sebastian’s wife, Charlotte, and has served delicious and locally sourced meals to communities on the west side of the island as part of WCK's Hurricane Fiona Response.
