Dr. Sonia engaging Juma on sacred shrines in environmental conservation at the Kambu River catchment [Video]

Sacred natural sites such as shrines are recognized as one of the most important ways of culture-based conservation strategies for the protection of biodiversity and key ecosystems like rivers, and mountains, especially in rural communities throughout the world. In communities where sacred sites exist, a system of religious beliefs and sociocultural practices are often used to manage and sustain these sites. Community members are not allowed to step at the sacred places or cut the trees near the shrines. We urge community members near the shrines to give them the respect they deserve by not cutting trees or grazing near the shrines. #shrines #conservation #restoration
