WCK’s team in Brazil identified an indigenous community five miles south of Porto Alegre in need of support. Members of the Pindo Poty community of the Mbya Guarani ethnic group were displaced from their homes for weeks. Some have been able to return but lack the means to cook for themselves. We provided ingredients and cooking supplies.

Reviro—a fried dough made with flour, oil, salt, and water—is a staple for this community. We delivered dozens of pounds of flour so families could prepare the dish, commonly served alongside sweet potatoes, fish, and eggs. Our team was honored to share a plate of reviro with the community. As WCK always does, we ensure the support we offer is culturally appropriate and meets the needs of the communities we serve.
Founded in 2010 by Chef José Andrés, World Central Kitchen (WCK) is a nonprofit organization that is first to the frontlines providing fresh meals in response to crises, while working to build resilient food systems with locally led solutions. Applying our model of quick action, leveraging local resources, and adapting in real time, WCK has served hundreds of millions nourishing meals around the world.
