A tour of the Continental Commissary Kitchen [Video]

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Food entrepreneurs in Mobile now have access to a new nonprofit commissary kitchen. A project the Hispanic American Business Association of the Gulf Coast has worked on for the past three years.

“This is a dream because I can see all these women and men in underserved communities that want to be food entrepreneurs create a future for them, for their families, and for their children,” President of HABAGC Leida Javier Ferrell said. “So, it’s a fantastic community service that we are trying to provide.”

Javier Ferrell says the Commissary Continental Kitchen is a space meant to be shared by small food businesses.

“We have dry and cold storage here,” Javier Ferrell said. “We have two actual kitchen spaces, a baking space, and four areas of prepping. So, we have several spaces here that people can be working at the same time in the same kitchen doing their own business.”
