Animal Rescue New Orleans to build new home in Elmwood with donation [Video]

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Leaders with Animal Rescue New Orleans announced the rescue will soon break ground on its new home in Elmwood.

ARNO is a nonprofit no-kill shelter, created to rescue and aid abandoned and homeless animals in the New Orleans area.

According to the rescue, it has provided for over 12,500 animals, finding them permanent homes through the help of volunteers since the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Organization leaders said a groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 24 will mark a milestone for ARNO because the new site will be the rescue’s permanent home. Since 2006, the rescue has been operating out of an old warehouse without air conditioning, heat and space.

“For the first time, we will have central air conditioning and heat, outdoor exercise yards and indoor play areas, and dedicated spaces for adoptions, training, medical care and so much more,” said ARNO President Kathy Perra.
