Celebrating the RSN’s 150th Anniversary: Fundraising in 1892

In our latest film, Chief Executive & Exhibition Curator, Dr Susan Kay-Williams, shows us a special book from 1892 which is currently on display at our 150th Anniversary exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum, London.

In 1892, the RSN staged a major fundraiser using a popular method at the time, a Tableaux Vivant. French for ‘living picture’, a Tableaux Vivant is a static scene containing one or more actors or models. This wonderful book from our archive collection contains photos and ephemera from our event, showcasing some of the fabulous scenery, costumes and people who were involved.

Our celebratory exhibition, ‘150 years of the Royal School of Needlework: Crown to Catwalk’ is open now until 4 September.
