Columbus County Schools set to add Wi-Fi to school buses [Video]

COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Over $100,000 in grant money will be used to add WI-FI to 44 Columbus County school buses.

According to Jeffrey Greene, the Transportation Director for Columbus County Schools, the money comes from the Smart School Bus Safety Pilot Program: a federal grant that allows add-ons like Wi-Fi, and GPS tracking to school buses.

The Smart School Bus Safety Pilot Program gave Columbus County Schools $119,090 for the additions. Greene says the WI-FI will allow students to get more work done before they get home.

The internet will be provided by a service called Kajeet. The Wi-Fi will be limited access and only allow students to access sites like Google Classroom.
