Construction to build tiny-home village for homeless veterans could begin as early as spring [Video]

When Thomas Zimmerman Jr. was planning to retire, he and his wife wanted to do to something to give back to the community.

They knew it would be veteran-related because Zimmerman’s father was a World War II veteran. Zimmerman realized there were veterans that were struggling and needed help.

So, Zimmerman and his nonprofit, Veterans Outreach of Pennsylvania are planning to build a “Veterans Village” for homeless veterans on a five-acre property on Front Street in Harrisburg, south of the PennDOT area. The property was previously home to the Phoenix Steel Corp. Mill

“The reason we are here spearheading this project is because veterans deserve better,” Zimmerman said. “Some of the men and women have lost their way and VOPA will be the hand up to help them get up on their feet and back into society and live a life of dignity and pride they so deserve.”
