Flower basket campaign returns to Marietta [Video]

MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) – Marietta Main Street is preparing to hang flower baskets on the lampposts in downtown Marietta and the Historic Harmar Village.

The annual flower program has grown to 360 hanging flower baskets throughout Marietta’s commercial district.

The fundraising goal is $25,000 to fund each flower Basket and the 180 days it requires for the care and maintenance of the petunias.

Main Street executive director Jenn Tinkler said the campaign is a way to highlight Marietta and its businesses.

“It is not a money maker for us, we do it for community pride. It’s more for the community and the tourists, everybody loves it. We will have the great race here in June, so we hope to make the town look nice. So, we are hoping to get all of the baskets sponsored this year.”
