Hamilton students hold food drive in support of local food bank [Video]

Students from Annunciation of Our Lord elementary school in Hamilton collected canned goods over lent for the Neighbour to Neighbour food bank. The students have been collecting the food for over a month.

Olivia Illescas, 12, says she can’t imagine going without food, “I don’t think it would be easy, because every time you try to make a meal you’d look in your fridge and think you don’t have that much stuff…”

Each classroom aimed to bring in 120 canned goods and most of them surpassed their goals. The kids walked several blocks to deliver the goods to the food bank on Thursday.

Neighbour to Neighbour feeds 1,500 families per month on the Hamilton Mountain alone, and last year they brought in one million pounds of food but that still wasn’t enough.
