Iowa City nonprofit highlights those currently, formerly incarcerated through art [Video]

Iowa City, Iowa (KCRG) – An Iowa City nonprofit shined a spotlight on those serving time in a unique way.

According to the Iowa Department of Corrections, more than eight thousand people are currently in prison across the state and a nonprofit worked to give them a voice through their art.

The Iowa City nonprofit Inside Out Re-entry Community hosted its second ever Art from the Inside Out event.

The group help those leaving incarceration with jobs, housing, resources.

This event highlighted people who are or have been in the prison system by showing more than 50 pieces of art they’ve created.

“When you look at artwork it’s very emotional we connect, everyone connects with artwork so I really think it emphasizes the humanity of those involved in the incarcerable system and hopefully maybe changes some attitudes,” said Inside Out Re-entry Community Executive Director Michelle Heinz.

The art will be on display at Public Space One on South …
