It was not an easy process: Solon Community School District gets approved for school security grant [Video]

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – About a year and a half after Gov. Kim Reynolds announced $75 million in federal pandemic relief funds to improve school security — that money is only now starting to get to schools.

Davis Eidahl, the superintendent of Solon Community School District, said they’re starting to implement new security measures after being approved for the state’s funds in December 2023.

“It was not an easy process, it did take time,” Eidahl said.

He said it took about a year and a half to get approved for the state’s grant. The district was approved for $200,000 — with $50,000 going to each of its four buildings.

“We had a sit down with the Johnson County Sheriff’s department and emergency management team,” Eidahl said. “We actually did a walk and a tour of each building where they assessed each building for us. That was a big part …
