Sherman students get a high-tech employment boost – KTEN [Video]

SHERMAN, Texas (KTEN) — The Sherman Independent School District will soon introduce a technology program, the first of its kind in Grayson County at the high school level.

Workforce Solutions Texoma received a $150,000 high-demand job training grant from the Texas Workforce Commission to help meet the needs of Sherman’s burgeoning high-tech industry.

The grant to Sherman High School was matched dollar-for-dollar by the Sherman Economic Development Corporation for a total of $300,000.

“Our new electronic engineering technology lab is an opportunity for our students to earn a Level 1 certificate, allowing them to graduate and immediately be eligible to be hired by our semiconductor industry partners right here in Sherman,” explained Sherman ISD career and technical education coordinator Elizabeth Clayton.

The grant money will be used to purchase equipment and train students and teachers. The certification will be the first of its kind at any Texas high school.
