St. Augustine’s University launches fundraising campaign in hopes of keeping accreditation [Video]

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — As it battles to keep accreditation status, Saint Augustine’s University is now hoping donors can help keep them afloat.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges put the university on probation in 2022, citing failures to be compliant with governing board characteristics and financial responsibility. 

In Dec. 2023, SACSCOC Board voted to remove the university from their membership. The university says they received an action letter from SACSCOC on January 11 outlining the Dec. 2023 decision and providing an opportunity for SAU to appeal that decision. 

An appeal hearing is expected to happen later this month.

In the meantime, the university has launched a fundraising campaign with a goal of $5 million. The goal of the Falcon Pride Initiative Fund is to prove to SACSCOC that the university is financially stable.
