MINNESOTA (3TV/CBS 5) — A beloved bus driver in Minnesota has been getting some support from students after she was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Heidi Carston spent a decade as a bus driver for her local elementary school district in Minnesota when her life took an unexpected turn.
She revealed to the kids on her bus that she would be leaving her bus route to undergo chemotherapy. They were devastated, and one 6th grader decided to start fundraising for Carston by making pastries to sell.
“My mom was like, ‘alright. Are you ready to seal the envelope?’” Noah Webber said. “And she told me the amount, and I was like, ‘Wait, mom,’ and I went to my — what I call this money stash — and I picked $26 from it, and I added it to the pile to make exactly $1,000.”
Noah isn’t the only one helping out his beloved bus …
