Editorial: Back-to-school can be an exciting yet anxious time for many [Video]

It’s back-to-school time in Oklahoma. Parents are getting school supplies. Teachers are making plans. and local school districts are gearing up.Oklahoma City Public Schools Superintendent Sean McDaniel joined KOCO 5 this week and told us how excited he is to welcome students back to class.”There’s a very positive vibe, a buzz,” McDaniel said on KOCO 5 News at 9 a.m. “I love first days of school. This is my 38th first day of school in the profession.”We also sat down with McDaniel and six other local superintendents to talk about the year ahead. They shared the challenges they’re preparing to face and their hope for this year. You can see the entire conversation in our KOCO Chronicle: Superintendent Roundtable at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6.We also have a back-to-school guide special airing at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9.More than 700,000 children are headed back to public school in Oklahoma this year, and, unfortunately, some of them and their families will struggle with food insecurity.So, KOCO 5 has partnered with the Regional Food Bank to raise money for those who need our help. You also can help by texting KIDS to 501-501 to make a $10 donation. All donations will be matched up to $300,000.The start of the school year can be an exciting time but also an anxious one.
