The drive’s mission is to ensure that every local family has a gift under their tree this holiday season.On Wednesday, The Salvation Army and our NBC5 crew helped load up trucks with donations, filling them to the brim with fun toys and goodies that will bring smiles to children’s faces in Vermont and the North Country.Organizers say that more than 2,500 area families have signed up to receive gifts this year, which translates to roughly 1,100 kids.The Salvation Army says they’re grateful to the community for stepping up.”It’s so wonderful to be able to come in, see the lobby filled, see our vans pulling out and even coming back with more toys,” said Capt. Felisha Davis. “It’s such a relief to know the community is willing to help and show up the way that they have.”The Salvation Army’s toy pickup location is at the old Sears building at the University Mall in South Burlington. If you did not sign up to receive gifts beforehand, you can still stop by the pickup location on Dec. 20, as organizers say they have more than enough toys to meet the demand.
