The differences occur in organizations’ policies and procedures to mitigate legal risk.Join us as forum presenter Donald Wells provides insight into Ohio policies and discusses how to satisfy legal and financial reporting requirements.About the presenter: Donald Wells has been practicing in the field of accounting for 30 years. In that time, he has worked at several accounting firms, including Price Waterhouse, Schneider Downs, and Hemphill and Associates. Donald started his own CPA firm, Wells, CPA LLC, in January 2015. Over the past 30 years, Donald has worked extensively in the Food Service, Oil and Gas, Automobile, Non-Profit, Manufacturing and Middle Market Industries. Donald has served on several boards in Central Ohio. The current Boards include Fellowship of Christian Athletes, SocialVentures, Catalyst Columbus and National Christian Foundation of Ohio. Personally, Donald enjoys working with business leaders and coaching youth in the area.Donald holds a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Ohio.

Columbus Pride Lighting Ceremony 2022 [Video]

Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and Council President Shannon Hardin announce that the 2022 Steven Shellabarger Illuminator Award will be presented to Siobhan Boyd-Nelson for her outstanding activism in the Columbus community and nationwide. The Steven Shellabarger Illuminator Award recognizes an individual within the Columbus community who has demonstrated outstanding initiative to promote LGBTQ+ rights and, in doing so, has created a more inclusive Columbus. Siobhan Boyd-Nelson serves as the deputy director for Equality Ohio. She received her BA in legal communication from Howard University in 2002. She returned home to Columbus and earned her JD from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 2005. Her involvement in Columbus’ LGBTQ+ community began shortly thereafter and has included leadership positions on the boards of LinkOUT, Scarlet & Gay (the OSU GLBT Alumni Society), and the Legacy Fund of the Columbus Foundation.Siobhan practiced law in the domestic, probate and appellate fields prior to entering the nonprofit sector in 2012. At Kaleidoscope Youth Center, Siobhan served as the development and marketing manager before moving to Stonewall Columbus where she led the community center’s capital campaign. Siobhan joined Equality Ohio as the director of development in 2018.Siobhan has served on numerous community boards and is currently serving as a board member for Black, OUT & Proud. She is a member of the Columbus Business First 40 Under 40 Class of 2019 and a recipient of the Create Columbus Visionary Award. Siobhan has lent her voice to discussions about LGBTQ+ identity, race and the intersection of identities in forums across the state including at Cincinnati Black Pride, United Way of Central Ohio, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Ohio Diversity and Leadership Conference

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP), there have been 130 distracted driving violations in Trumbull, Mahoning and Columbiana counties this year. TCTC students wanted to help reduce this, so they made a campaign for Ohio’s “Just Drive” Contest. Our board of directors was able work with Crusher’s kind management to coordinate 60 free tickets, 60 all you can eat buffets, free parking, goodie bags, and 11 first pitches thrown out by ‘Super Kids’. ‘Super Kids’ are children we honor as REAL heroes for the way they are overcoming illness and adversity with the strength of a real Super Hero! Our board of directors approved funding for the buffets and tons of goodies. We were very proud to volunteer to make this a fun night for the ‘Super Kids and Families’, and the public. *’Super Heroes To Kids In Ohio’ is an official 501(c)3 non-profit charity not directly affiliated with DC, Marvel, Disney, or any other similar group or company. Funding for Youth Summer Programming [Video]

Columbus Mayor Andrew J. Ginther today joined city and community partners to announce $16.2 million in city support for summer programming for Columbus youth. From education and violence prevention to career exploration, jobs training and more, all the programs receiving funding are designed to provide safe, constructive and engaging outlets for youth to learn and thrive throughout the summer.Of the total $16.2 million in city funding that was announced, the administration is dedicating $14.4 million from the American Rescue Plan and the city’s General Fund. Columbus City Council is contributing $1.8 million, all from the Reimagining Safety FundTo help reduce violence across Columbus, the administration and City Council are allocating a combined $7.9 million for programs that promote community safety. $5.3 million is going toward programs that engage youth through various mentorship and educational opportunities, including camps and other experiences designed to reduce violence and encourage positive social interactions. Approximately $3 million is specifically devoted to workforce development programming.Separately, Franklin County is investing over $6.1 million to support enriching activities for youth this summer, from free day camps for elementary and middle school students to paid work experiences, and college and career readiness programs for high school students and young adults. In general, families must meet Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) income guidelines to qualify for county programming. Additionally, Columbus City Schools will once again host the Summer Experience, a free, immersive learning program for students in pre-K through grade 12 to accelerate their education or engage in course recovery.Columbus City Schools Superintendent and CEO Dr. Talisa Dixon echoed the importance of helping students make the most of summer break. “Columbus City Schools shares a commitment with the city to keep our students safe and actively engaged over the summer. Our Summer Experience will provide unique learning opportunities with six weeks of fun, hands-on enrichment for our students in a safe environment to continue growing academically and socially.” The program runs June 21 – July 28, and the deadline to register is Friday, May 20.Ordinances authorizing the allocation of city funding will be considered by Columbus City Council at the May 23 and June 6 regular meetings.
