Salvation Army picks up hundreds of toys in South Burlington for Toys for Kids drive [Video]

NBC5 has once again partnered with The Salvation Army and the Marine Corps League for the annual Toys for Kids drive. The drive’s mission is to ensure that every local family has a gift under their tree this holiday season.On Wednesday, The Salvation Army and our NBC5 crew helped load up trucks with donations, filling them to the brim with fun toys and goodies that will bring smiles to children’s faces in Vermont and the North Country.Organizers say that more than 2,500 area families have signed up to receive gifts this year, which translates to roughly 1,100 kids.The Salvation Army says they’re grateful to the community for stepping up.”It’s so wonderful to be able to come in, see the lobby filled, see our vans pulling out and even coming back with more toys,” said Capt. Felisha Davis. “It’s such a relief to know the community is willing to help and show up the way that they have.”The Salvation Army’s toy pickup location is at the old Sears building at the University Mall in South Burlington. If you did not sign up to receive gifts beforehand, you can still stop by the pickup location on Dec. 20, as organizers say they have more than enough toys to meet the demand.

IT WAS A $5 BILL WITH TAPE ALL AROUND IT INSIDE A GOLD COIN. IT IS WORTH OVER $2,000. WHILE THE ARMY DOES NOT KNOW WHO DROPPED THAT COIN INSIDE OF THE BUCKET. MAJOR JAKE TELLS US IT IS A HUGE HELP FOR THE FUNDRAISING EFFORTS THIS YEAR. SO WE GOT AFFECTED BY THE FLOOD AND WE LOST ONE OF OUR THRIFT STORES. SO BECAUSE OF THAT, WE ARE ALREADY BEHIND WHEN IT COMES TO DONATIONS AND INCOME. AND SO RIGHT NOW, STILL ON THIS KETTLE CAMPAIGN, WE HAVE TO RAISE $70,000 IN THE NEXT 14, 14 DAYS. PEOPLE ARE JUST EXCITED TO BE HERE AT ARROWHEAD TO BEGIN WITH AND THEY WANT TO JOIN IN THE EXCITEMENT BY ALSO DONATING AND AND SPREADING THAT CHEER TO EVERYBODY ELSE. MAJOR KELLY COLLINS HELPED TO COLLECT DONATIONS FROM FANS OF BOTH TEAMS AHEAD OF KICKOFF. THEY WERE SO GRACIOUS.
