#SocialSchool4EDU – How We Got Started [Video]

I am so thankful that I never gave up on my dream 💜My name’s Andrea Gribble, and I am the owner and founder of SocialSchool4EDU. We partner with schools around the world to help them celebrate their students and connect their communities to the great things happening in their school. I have two daughters. I have four stepsons. I have an amazing husband. And we have the coolest family ever, I just want to say that. Back in 2013, I was working in a corporate job. And I was a single mom of two little girls, and I walked in one day to work and I was met at the door. And I knew what that meant because I was in management before and I lost my job right before Thanksgiving. I instantly went to work. I am a, I’m an outgoing person and I started looking for a job. I really couldn’t find anything that people really wanted to hire me for. And so I was, I was scared. A fellow female entrepreneur really encouraged me and said, “you know, Andrea, like people could use help with social media like when they’re running their small business.” So I started doing social media for her as a caterer. I got an accountant, I got a jeweler, I got a photographer, and I loved it. It was fun, but every little niche was different, right? You had to really learn and explore, okay, who’s their customer and how do you talk to them? And it was in that whole time when the superintendent, Brian Henning at the little, little New Auburn school district, which is where I went to high school and where my daughters went to school. And actually my mom worked for Brian so my mom was the district administrative secretary. And so really Brian said, “You know, we need to give Andrea something to do.” And so it was really out of that where he said, “Hey, maybe you could launch like Facebook and Twitter and YouTube for our school district.” And I thought, “Awesome,” because it’s not really like marketing, you’re just like celebrating all of the great things happening in the school. And I’m like, I could do this. And I set up a system where I didn’t have to be at the school. I was getting the stories from the staff members so I could do that from wherever I was at. When I started. this is how much belief I had in myself. Educators like Brian, they have the ability to believe in people before they ever believe in themselves. And that’s what Brian gave to me. Now, along the way, I was about six months in, I’m like, I can’t afford my house anymore. I was really at a low point and right then I had to sell my house and move in with my parents. And at that point I started interviewing for other jobs. I am so grateful and thankful every moment in my life that I was willing to take that risk because it was hard. All of that adversity that I had to get through was just setting me up for what I get to do every day now. And I am so excited. I was not living into that full potential when I worked for somebody else. And now to be able to literally touch people around the world. But in order to have a bigger impact, I needed a team. And my belief is I surround myself with people that are smarter than I am, that are, you know, more talented than I am, that have skills in areas that I don’t have skills in. And I have done exactly that. I have built this dream team. We have this amazing, amazing team of storytellers. Of passionate souls that just want what’s best for these schools. And I think as a business owner and as a woman in leadership I am the most proud of this team and this culture and this mission that we have at SocialSchool4EDU to live out and serve and help and grow. It’s a tremendous responsibility that I lean into every single day.MORE RESOURCES:Free Video Training: Learn the simple secrets behind social media for K12 schools!
