Today Monday 23 May 2022, Impact Africa showcase ‘Celebrating Mother’s Day’ events organised by the Delft Senior Forum (DSF) on Saturday 10 May at Mandela Park Hall and Thursday 12 May at Delft Civic Hall both in Delft, Cape town, South Africa. DSF used both events to celebrate and appreciate their female seniors in Delft. Inspirational talks, mother’s day goodie bags, tasty rice-chicken-salad dishes, fun dance, beautiful singing, cutting of the cakes were some of the activities and items enjoyed by all. The amazing & selfless senior ladies Ms Gadija Francis, Chairperson of Delft Seniors Forum & her Vice Chairpersons – Ms Amelia Jones & Ms Jessica – with support from other DSF executives ensured that all the seniors in attendance and invited guests were well looked after. Around 1991, Delft Seniors Forum (DSF) was started as a club by a Mrs Moses (& others) though under a different name. The initial focus was to get a day hospital and police station in Delft, which they did achieve. One of DSF’s goal is to support the elderly and have their voices heard. Their youngest member is 50 years and oldest was 116 years who passed in 2021. DSF helps promote healthy lifestyle for their seniors, organises various activities (knitting, self defence, walking soccer, arts & more) and celebrates all their members. They are self-funded and organise different fundraising activities. They are consulted regularly on issues to do with the elderly by the cape town government, South African Police and other non governmental organisations. DSF has over the years achieved so much for their Delft community. They are keen on bridging the gap between the youth and seniors. In addition, they are very active in their own way in addressing and challenging some of the negatives (drugs, crime, alcoholism, etc) their community is sadly known for. Both Mother’s Day events were supported by Councillor Dineo Masiu of Ward 20 Delft, Bold Moves and other community partners / organisations. We celebrate, honour and appreciate all our committed and dedicated seniors in Delft and other communities, who are changing the narratives for their areas with little or no support sometimes. Thank you for all you do and helping to positively impact the lives of those that are vulnerable especially the seniors & elderly.
