‘Trust in Elections’ civic learning contest honorable mention – Viviana Arnold | Local Voices [Video]

According to a CBS News poll, two-thirds of all Americans believe U.S. democracy is threatened.

As we approach another presidential election, misinformation is eroding the public’s trust in democracy, and only 20% of Americans feel “very confident” in the integrity of the U.S. election system. That’s despite the fact that public elected officials of both parties, judges, hand recounts, audits and investigations have determined that the previous presidential election, in 2020, was fair, secure and accurate.

The nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations Hourglass Foundation, Keep Our Republic and the Steinman Institute for Civic Engagement sponsored a “Trust in Elections” civic learning contest that invited Lancaster County High School students to explore and communicate the importance of voting and the impact of elections on society. Students could choose to submit entries in the categories of Creative Expression; Civic Engagement Planning; Essay; or Social Media Campaign Planning. A panel of three judges ranked submissions …
