PITTSBORO, N.C. (WNCN) — The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office said deputies, along with an animal welfare organization, seized 170 dogs from a residence Tuesday following ongoing concerns of neglect.
Chatham County Sheriff Mike Roberson said his office was alerted to the property at 1360 Oakley Church Road in the Bear Creek community by a concerned neighbor.
“We’ve tried to work with the owner and the people, the caretakers, there since September. We made some progress, and at some point, it did not get better and has been getting progressively worse,” he explained.
The incident happened on Jan. 25. 38 dogs were seized and 6 were found dead. Alicia Dawn Culbrson, 36, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office also arrested 48-year-old Kelly Dawn Privat, charging her with 10 counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. She’s been issued a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in …
