AUSTIN, Texas — On Monday, students in Austin were recognized for developing apps.
Congressman Lloyd Doggett was at Austin ISD’s Liberal Arts and Science Academy, or LASA, to present awards to students who created their own apps and entered the Congressional App Challenge.
The winning app in Rep. Doggett’s district is called FoodCycle. It uses an online marketplace to redistribute excess food so it doesn’t go to waste.
“We developed this app to try to provide supermarkets and local food redistributors an easy way to establish a connection to local nonprofits and food banks, to kind of mitigate this issue between food insecurity and food waste,” said student Vedant Sangani.
