MORROW, Ohio (WKRC) — High school students across the nation are competing to help find a cure for leukemia through fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
Several students across the Tri-State are campaigning for the LL’s Student Visionary of the Year. One of them is Tyler Manocchio, a junior at Little Miami High School in Morrow, Ohio, about 30 minutes outside of Cincinnati to the north east.
His little brother, Drew, has been in remission for a year after fighting leukemia for two and a half years.
Tyler says he’ll never forget the night he learned Drew had cancer.
I’ve never heard my dad cry before, and he came and he screamed my name with a crying voice and I knew something was wrong and my heart dropped,” Tyler said.
Their mother, Ashley, says it started when Drew broke both of his legs in a two-week span.
