VANCOUVER Wash. (KPTV) – Clark County officials and volunteers conducted the annual Point-in-Time count Thursday to help the county estimate how many people are experiencing homelessness in the community.
As the count began, volunteers fanned out across the county to start counting those who do not have a permanent home.
The Council for the Homeless, the nonprofit that organizes the count, said the final number will not be announced until at least May.
Development and Communications Director, Charlene Welch, said that number will likely be an undercount. She said they do their best to get the best estimate possible.
“We count people living outside, in their car, in a tent, in an emergency shelter,” Welch said. “We have partners who are counting folks who are visiting them today for services all around the county. Then when folks come to Project Homeless Connect, they’re counted again.”
