ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A Cobb County nonprofit is changing the way people often think of a food pantry.
The Center for Family Resources introduced a new concept similar to a grocery store.
Those with the center say “The Family Cupboard Choice Pantry” was made possible by a grant from Cobb County.
The program allows families to choose their food instead of being handed a pre-packaged box.
“It helps them feel like they’re not just a face that’s coming to just get a box that we’re unloading on them,” said Melanie Kagan, CEO of the Center for Family Resources.
Kagan said the program gives those in need “the opportunity to come and shop and feel like they’re just going to a neighborhood store.”
Each shopper is also assisted by a volunteer who educates and identifies healthier food options.
