Concerns on cancer awareness inequality in South Africa – SABC News [Video]

Professor Riana Bornman from the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Pretoria has expressed concern about the inequality of cancer awareness in South Africa.

Today marks World Cancer Day to raise awareness of cancer and encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.

Bornman says people living in rural areas are likely to develop cancer because they do not have the proper care compared to people in private practice.

“I think we really need to have equity in terms of cancer awareness. The people in the rural areas are at a disadvantage, which means that we need to create awareness in them for better taking care of themselves.”
