EXPLAINER: What you need to know about school choice in Nebraska [Video]

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – It’s National School Choice Week, a public awareness campaign where a national nonprofit is encouraging families to consider where they want to send their children to school next academic year.

Despite months left before this school year ends, it’s not too early to start thinking about the next academic year, especially for those interested in exploring sending their child to another K-12 school than the public one they’re assigned.

“It’s not like it was a generation ago where you paid out of pocket for private or you sent your child to public school and that was the end of conversation,” said Shelby Doyle with the National School Choice Foundation.

In Nebraska, K-12 families can choose between traditional public schools, magnet public schools, online learning, private schools, and home education.
