KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – On MLK Day many organizations across the metro will celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Local nonprofits are using the holiday as a day of service.
At Harvesters in Kansas City, volunteers are calling it a day on, not a day off. Volunteers brought food with them to donate, but hundreds also packed and sorted food.
The food bank encourages volunteers as young as 8 years old to give back and no matter the age, volunteers make a difference.
“It helps serve the people in need of more food,” volunteer, Theo Ballinger said. “That’s also a good thing to do on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.”
The YMCA of Greater Kansas City hosted its annual event, encouraging local communities to give back.
