Houston County gets FEMA funding for emergency shelter and food [Video]

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – Houston County has received FEMA funds from the national board for an emergency food and shelter program.

Over $25,000 are available through the board that will be distributed to local nonprofits that use the funds in their daily programs.

This action comes a few months after nonprofits responded to Cottonwood after disaster struck, leaving residents without shelter and food.

”It is incredible and totally essential for these organizations that receive these funds,” said Josie Shepard, the local board chair for this funding. “We are starting to get emails from these partner organizations who have been receiving them in the past because they are ready to re-apply because they spend the funds so quickly because there is so much need in the Wiregrass, especially when you have things happen like natural disasters that come through because then the need is even greater than it already is.”
