The Kenosha Sportfishing & Conservation Association is seeking to raise $10,000 for maintenance and upgrade work on the Pike Creek fish rearing pond, 3311 Sheridan Road.
Association President Walter Kreuser said the money will go to the pond’s electric bill as well as upgrading the site’s equipment. Upgrades would take about two years, he said.
“We’re bringing it into the current technology,” Kreuser said. “We’re making it easier for the systems to operate together.”
In April, another 40,000 Chinook fingerlings will be loaded into the pond, to be held for about a month before being released into the Pike River. Those fish then help support the area’s fishery, which Kreuser claimed brings in millions of dollars to the community every year.
When the fingerlings are released, Kreuser said the underwater cameras will be running again to watch the fish by livestream.
