Lightfest celebrates 25th anniversary with youth basketball clinic at church on Westport Road | News [Video]

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Some young basketball fans were seeing the light Saturday thanks to a clinic that highlights more than just the game.

Saturday marked the 25th anniversary of Lightfest. The Basketball Delight Clinic was put on by We Survive, a nonprofit organization, that supports those dealing with hunger and homelessness.

The event was held at Westport Road Baptist Church and featured a skills training class by professional basketball skills trainer Phillip Morrison.

The goal of the event was to bring awareness about poverty in the community and stress the importance of mental health.

“It ups their self-esteem, it gives them the opportunity to learn something about the artistic part of sports and activities,” Sharon Cecil, executive director of We Survive, said. “Its the spirit of community’s unity.”

Donations for the event go on to support Miracle on Broadway, a free Christmas store supporting Louisville’s homeless community.
