Local nonprofit lends a hand to Smith County Sheriffs Office farming [Video]

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) – The Smith County Sheriff’s Department broke ground on Thursday as they gear up for another year of farming.

They intend to grow a wide variety of crops, tended to by jail trusties. All food will be distributed to the East Texas Food Bank to feed local families in need.

“It’s a very special project to us because we know the purpose of this program and we know the end result is going to be great for the community and the people that work with it,” President of the Lone Tarrant Antique Tractor and Engine Association Charles Parmley said.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office has done this for several years, along with some members of the Lone Tarrant Antique Tractor and Engine Association, which is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of antique farm machinery.

World Central Kitchen held an interfaith Celebration of Life to honor our heroes killed in Gaza. The memorial service was held at the National Cathedral in Washington, DC on Thursday, April 25.
