ASPROC is an association of farmers with more than 20 years of agricultural organization and production experience. They are specialists in greenhouse production of organic tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and other vegetables using organic inputs that are prepared on site, and have adopted highly efficient practices and technology to evolve from conventional to sustainable growing. More than 90 Kaqchikel Mayan farmers participate in the association’s production process, acquiring skills in construction, harvesting, and marketing. With WCK’s support and counterpart funding from other grants, ASPROC built a 2,300-square-meter greenhouse to produce salad tomatoes, harvesting 816 quintals – approximately 90 tons – of tomatoes every 90 days. With this increase in production they are aiming to double their sales and employment opportunities.
