In the spirit of community activism, Mohawk warrior, activist, and singer-songwriter Logan Staats is set to headline a fundraising concert on November 3 in Ottawa to protest the Ford government’s plan to construct a prison in Kemptville, Ontario. Presented by the Coalition Against the Proposed Prison (CAPP) and co-presented by Debaser, the concert will raise funds to support the legal challenge against the construction of the 235-bed prison on Algonquin Anishinaabe Territory.
“Debaser strongly supports the CAPP’s mission to stop the building of a new prison in Kemptville,” says Debaser director Rachel Weldon. “As an organization based in downtown Ottawa, we see the critical need for housing, mental health and addiction support services, and not for a new prison that will further isolate and punish vulnerable community members who need these supports.
