NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) – The Community Resource Center in North Charleston is gearing up to host a special Giveback Day in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
Several statewide, local community leaders and volunteers will be handing out 1,000 bags of groceries, 10,000 diapers, baby needs, hygiene products, 1,000 backpacks and school supplies and 1,500 pieces of winter clothing.
The center will also be accepting applications for free heaters and air conditioning units, which will be going home with approved applicants on the day of.
Community Resource Center Executive Director Louis Smith anticipates seeing hundreds in turnout and says collaboration with community partners makes it possible to serve families.
He adds that it is important for the group to honor what Martin Luther King Jr. stood for in unity, charity and peace.
