Burger King is giving peace a chance — even if McDonald’s wants nothing to do with it.
After McDonald’s shot down an invitation by Burger King last month to design a hybrid “McWhopper,” Denny’s, Wayback Burger and a host of other small-fry chains took the bait.
“An incredible thing has happened,” Burger King announced on Tumblr Monday. “We’ve received a significant number of unexpected responses from other restaurants, large and small, each expressing an appetite for peace and enthusiasm to help spread the Peace One Day message.”
Besides Denny’s and Wayback, Atlanta-based Krystal and Brazilian chain Giraffas offered to collaborate on a so-called “Peace Day Burger,” which would be available Sept. 21 for International Day of Peace. The burger would be free for the public — the chains involved would instead donate to Peace One Day, the charity initiative of the International Day of Peace.
The supersize sandwich will contain one ingredient from each restaurant, according to the Tumblr post.
