RICHMOND, Ky. (FOX 56) — A food bank in Richmond is celebrating Heart Month with a new initiative that encourages community members to get moving while gathering healthy food donations for people in need.
Group leaders with God’s Outreach say food banks often see a dip in donations this time of year. That’s why it’s launching a February food drive and fitness initiative.
“The holidays are over, and people’s focus has shifted from gift-giving and feeding others,” said Amanda Agee, the assistant director for God’s Outreach. “So, we really hope this will become an annual event to help us keep food bolstered up through the holidays, all the way through the winter, really.”
Agee said Richmond has at least 18,000 people at or below the poverty level, which means many of them are food insecure.
