ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Over the last several weeks, New York State has held a number of hearings to allow the public to weigh in on Governor Kathy Hochul’s proposed 2024 – 2025 Executive Budget.
Thursday, the topic was elementary and secondary education.
Dr. Carmine Peluso, the RCSD superintendent, spoke about how Rochester city schools could use more help. Among his requests: reinstating the $1.2 million Rochester School Health Service grant funds, which were removed from the governor’s budget.
“With the expiration of federal stimulus funds in September, school districts must scale back on staffing and services used to support students, and learning coming out of COVID,” Peluso said. “One of our areas of critical need is the mental health and emotional state of our students and staff. Our district provides valuable health services to our school community.”
