This video shows the effects of Marine Debris on Remote Islands in Alaska. In 2022, A marine debris cleanup crew removes more than 11,000 pounds of trash from Gasḵúu, known as Forrester Island located off the coast of Alaska. The islands are part of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, the largest Steller sea lion rookery in North America, home to millions of seabirds, and a hotspot for marine debris. To help protect life on the island, Ocean Conservancy partner, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, organized a marine debris cleanup, with funding from the NOAA Marine Debris Program, to both remove and study the debris on the island.
