A benefit at Corry High School gave parents and students a chance to donate to the Trooper Jacques “Jay” Rougeau Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Nicole Lambert helped organize the benefit and explained how the scholarship began.
“His classmates, he was a graduate of 2012 and he was the class president so his friends established that scholarship with the Corry Community Foundation,” Lambert said.
T-shirts and bracelets ensuring Rougeau is never forgotten were available for sale.
Among the many attendees was a man who knew Rougeau well, coaching him throughout his high school basketball career.
“It was a privilege, great kid, hard worker, always in the gym, was a great role model for the younger players and was just the kind of kid you want your son to grow up to be like,” Chad Sutton, Rougeau’s high school basketball coach, said.
