Tuscaloosa Salvation Army hosts Empty Bowl fundraiser [Video]

TUSCALOOSA Ala. (WBRC) – Tuscaloosa’s Salvation Army fulfills many roles in West Alabama. Feeding those in need is one of the biggest challenges.

That’s why it hosted its second annual Empty Bowl fundraiser at the Tuscaloosa River Market. An empty bowl represents hunger in the West Alabama community.

For $25 someone could buy an empty bowl and eat soup, salad, and other food from more than half a dozen Tuscaloosa-area restaurants.

Money raised for this effort benefitted the Tuscaloosa Salvation Army food pantry.

“So, we have a 76 bed capacity shelter. We serve families, individual men and women, and veterans. And so, during this time of season, we’re at full capacity and that makes it so that we have to provide more meals,” explained Lt. Schlelika Chisolm, with the Salvation Army.
