Westfield council approves CPA funds for Wyben school, Grandmothers Garden [Video]

WESTFIELD — With encouragement during public participation from Cindy Gaylord, asking the City Council to approve the Community Preservation Committee’s grant for the West Farms Schoolhouse in Wyben, and from Maureen Kane, asking the councilors to approve the CPC funding plans for future renovations at Grandmothers’ Garden, the council voted unanimously to approve both projects at its meeting on May 2.

The $95,000 for the Wyben Schoolhouse will be used to address the most needed maintenance to preserve the building, as the Historic Commission continues on its quest to reopen the 1861 building, the last surviving original one-room schoolhouse in Westfield, as a site for educational and community programs.

The $30,000 for Grandmothers’ Garden will be used to pay for plans by R. Levesque Associates for an outdoor classroom, restrooms and kitchenette, also for community and educational uses.
