CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – It’s not a problem of what’s coming for Charlotte Schools, but rather what’s going away. A major source of funding is drying up soon, leaving a major financial hole that the school system has to try to find a way out of.
These were federal funds given to CMS because of the pandemic, and it was quite the chunk of change.
We’re talking millions of dollars.
Now, that money has dried up leaving administrators with a big hole they’ve got to dig out of.
“We have to cut $190 million dollars from our current operating budget,” Kelly Kluttz, the CFO of the school system said.
The loss to the budget was staggering, but not unexpected.
“The pandemic is over, and as such these funds are expiring,” Superintendent Dr. Crystal Hill told the board.
