Castaways thrift shop raises money for local nonprofits [Video]

Nonprofits in Aransas County received generous gifts from Castaways Thrift Shop in Rockport for the 45th year.

ROCKPORT, Texas — For the 45th year — nonprofits in Aransas County received generous gifts from Castaways Thrift Shop in Rockport.

The thrift shop is about much more than clothes.

It’s a place where they take in donations year-round to eventually give out to non-profits in the area.

Those grants average around half a million dollars each year, recently.

Castaways celebrated a milestone Sunday, the shop reached $6 million over the decades they’ve been giving back to the community.

“We’re really excited about what’s happening here today for the community.” said Tess Sauthier Grant Committee Chair.

“For the community shop within Castaways for all of the volunteers that work so hard to make this happen.”

“I think the pioneers that started it… I just imagine what they would think now if they were around to see what we’re doing still today,” said …
