Hunting and archery programs in schools across Alaska almost lost the money needed to keep them going.
However, President Biden has now signed a law to protect federal funding for hunting and archery programs in K thru 12 schools nationwide.
That was not the case a few months ago, when the Biden Administration did not provide critical funding for those programs.
Places such as rural Alaska could have been affected, including programs at Haines Borough School District.
“Truthfully in disbelief. I thought, how can this possibly be,” asked Roy Getchell, Haines Borough Superintendent. “Because this is part of our way of life, you know, in rural Alaska and frankly, in all of our state.”
Programs like the learning how to live off the land can be vital to students and their communities.
