BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – One of the biggest barriers some people face when it comes to employment is transportation. Not having a reliable vehicle can cause missed hours or opportunities for advancement.
Cars to Work is a program by Goodwill Industries that is trying to eliminate the transportation barrier for people across Kentucky. The nonprofit program offers secured auto loans to employed applicants working at least 30 hours a week with no or low credit scores.
“Whether it’s Bowling Green, Louisville, Eastern Kentucky, just getting those partnerships that really buy into our mission of providing assistance to people who really need it,” said Kimberly Felts, Program Specialist for Transportation Programs.
The cars from the program act as a lifeline for applicants.
“We back the loan so Goodwill is the lien holder and we secure the auto loan until it’s paid off,” Felts said. “Credit score doesn’t matter because Goodwill is securing it …
