Alabama community college and trade school students will see thousands of dollars in scholarships if the newly introduced gaming bill becomes law. The 150-page bill introduced Thursday would legalize a lottery, sports betting, traditional raffles, bingo, and seven casinos spread out across the state.
State Rep. Andy Whitt told WAAY 31 this is the best gaming bill the state has seen. He says the educational lottery will help so many people across the state and give chances to people who never thought they would go to school.
Whitt said, “This is a true educational lottery. 100 percent of the proceeds will go back into education. It will be looking at funding scholarships for junior colleges, our two-year systems, and trade schools. And this is critically important as we work toward developing our workforce, our labor force, and our skilled laborers.”
